WHAT are the rainbow girls?

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls builds girls into leaders of tomorrow.  Our sisterhood extends across 47 states in the U.S. as well as 10 other countries, building a community of girls connected in their love of service.

Rainbow is associated with the Freemasons, but membership has always been open to all girls.

Rainbow is led by girls, for girls.  The elected leader of the local Assembly, called the Worthy Advisor, plans her own 6-month term by creating events, coordinating the calendar, delegating tasks, and choosing a charity to raise money for during her term.  She plans her own fundraisers, fun events, and service projects.  She presides over the meeting and is responsible for keeping order.  Adults are always there to support her, but she is the true leader.  This opportunity to learn how to lead, even at a young age, teaches girls many skills that will be crucial no matter what they choose to do in life!

WHat does the RAINBOW mean?

Rainbow was founded in 1922 by Rev. W. Mark Sexson, a Christian minister and member of the Masonic Lodge in McAlester, Oklahoma.  He used the colors of the Rainbow to emphasize 7 important life lessons:

Red: Love

We act in love toward others.

Orange: Religion

We associate ourselves with some religion and believe in one Creator.

Yellow: Nature

We value and spend time in nature.

Green: Immortality

We believe that what we do in this life carries forward after death.

Blue: Fidelity

We are true to each other and are reliable.

Indigo: Patriotism

We are good citizens, and support and defend our country.

Violet: Service

Selfless service is the true key to happiness.
